1) Please read the article from the link above. At the end there is a quiz. Please take the quiz and share your results in your post.
2) Also, please write a small paragraph reflecting your opinion about the article.
According to the test result, I do not have a problem with being addicted to my phone. I received a 3 out of 20.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the article, humans' attention span has decreased due to smart phones. Studies prove that goldfish have an attention span of nine seconds. I disagree because people are able to talk about a topic for a long period of time. However, studies show that humans' multitask ability has increased. I agree because people can talk on the phone and cook and meal at the same time. Even though people argue that iPhones have a negative effect, they also have a positive effect.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the test result, I don't have a problem. My results were 5 out of 20.
ReplyDeleteReflection on the article: I do not believe that humans have an attention span of 8 seconds. I go to school everyday and pay attention in class. I do not think that using a smartphone will decrease our attention span. I agree that smartphones are distracting. However, the article did say that certain people- heavy social media users- have irregular bursts of high attention. I think this study needs a bigger sample size in order to be proven right.
I should probably leave my phone alone for a little while, I got a 7/20.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the article's claim that humans have a lower attention span than goldfish. Everyone I know can pay attention to something for a significantly longer period of time than that. I do, however, agree that people can multitask better now, and that smartphones can be a negative influence.

I might have a small problem....I scored a 12/20 on this quiz. However, I don't think that I use my phone to an inordinate degree. It's true that I do a lot of things on my phone and I do them often, but I don't believe that there's anything wrong with that, especially because what I mostly do is read books online. I disagree with the article in another instance: where they said humans, on average, have a lower attention span than that of a goldfish. I, as well as many of my classmates, manage to sit through several 40 minute classes consecutively and still maintain alert behavior and be able to absorb new information. If a goldfish was in all of these classes with me, I can be secure in my belief that he would be swimming around looking at other things while I sat stationary in my desk paying attention.
